VU Daily Blog: 12/10/10

The Vikings were careful with how much they showed the media regarding Brett Favre's throwing ability, but he wasn't the only one on the Friday injury report. See all the Vikings news and speculation as it progressed through the VU Daily Blog.

Harvin doubtful; four questionable for Vikings

Percy Harvin hasn't practiced since Dec. 1, so his availability for Sunday's game was already considered slim, but after missing practice again on Friday with migraines, he is officially listed as doubtful.

"It's going to be touch-and-go. We're going to talk again," Frazier said. "But it's going to be very, very difficult to get him up to speed. But we'll see."

There is no debating the availability of cornerback Chris Cook (knee) or safety Tyrell Johnson (knee), who were both declared out. Frazier said there has been some internal discussion about shutting down Cook for the season, but Cook said no one has approached him with that possibility yet.

Cooks has been dealing with swelling a "dull pain" in his left knee, the most of recent of two meniscus tears.

In addition to those three, QB Brett Favre (shoulder), guard Steve Hutchinson (thumb), defensive end Ray Edwards (ankle) and QB Joe Webb (hamstring) are questionable.

Favre's situation was detailed in this story on the front page, but his protection could be an issue facing the New York Giants if Hutchinson, his Pro Bowl left guard, can't play.

"He has a very tough injury because of the position that he plays," Frazier said of Hutchinson's thumb. "It's just a matter of can he mentally get past some things that he's have to get past. Based on what we've seen, it's going to be difficult because the position he plays requires using your hands every single snap. So it's going to be tough, but if anybody can do it, Steve Hutchinson can do it."

Wide receivers Bernard Berrian (groin), Sidney Rice (hip) and Greg Lewis (concussion), running backs Toby Gerhart (hamstring) and Adrian Peterson (ankle), and safety Jamarca Sanford (hamstring) are all probable, meaning they are a virtual certainty to play.

Favre doesn't throw in front of media

The Vikings are being guarded on how much they show Brett Favre in front of the cameras and they may continue to be guarded today now that the cameras have left.

Favre took four reps with the first-team offense during the portion of practice open to the media, making two left-handed handoffs and dropping back twice to throw but never actually throwing a pass. Backup Tarvaris Jackson followed the same routine with the second-team offense, dropping back twice and not releasing the ball during the final snaps the media were allowed to view.

Favre will likely be listed as limited Friday and questionable for the game Sunday when the injury report comes out later this afternoon.

Five players were looking that they wouldn't practice Friday: Wide receiver Percy Harvin (migraines) still wasn't at practice and hasn't practiced since Dec. 1, safety Tyrell Johnson (knee), cornerback Chris Cook (knee), guard Steve Hutchinson (thumb) and defensive end Ray Edwards (ankle).

Defensive line's success shows in nominations

The Vikings didn't have one of their players earn NFC Defensive Player of the Week for last weekend's games, but the fact that two of their defensive linemen were nominated for the weekly award shows how well they performed.

Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen had five tackles, a sack and a forced fumble last week against the Buffalo Bills and was one of the nominees.

Fellow defensive end Brian Robison, filling in for the injured Ray Edwards (ankle) and making his first start of the season, was also one of the nominees. He had three tackles and two fumble recoveries. Robison said it was the first time he could remember having two fumble recoveries in one game, whether that's in high school, college or the pros.

Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee, who had four tackles and two interceptions in a 38-35 win over Indianapolis, ended up winning the award.
