Winfield fined for hit on Cutler, uniform violation

Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield is $17,500 lighter after being fined by the league for $7500 for his helmet-to-chin hit on Bears quarterback Jay Cutler on Monday night, and another $10,000 for a "uniform violation."

Ironically, the height of his socks draws the bigger penalty than the hit on Cutler.  Winfield is planning to appeal the fine for the hit but not the socks.

Frazier: Peterson shows ‘dramatic improvement'

Adrian Peterson showed "dramatic improvement" this week with his bruised thigh, according to interim coach Leslie Frazier.

Peterson returned to practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday, but Frazier wasn't ready to declare Peterson ready for Sunday night's game.

"Is it enough to get us to game day? We'll see. We have another day, so we'll see how he does tomorrow," Frazier said. "But he's really improved from Monday so we'll see if he takes another jump tomorrow."

Frazier said he isn't concerned about Peterson doing any long-term damage by playing, but it's a matter of how effective he can be.

"You have to be concerned if he can't really protect himself. If he can't make a cut to get out of the way of a hit or do the things he has to do," Frazier said. "That's what you get concerned about."

While Peterson improved, quarterback Brett Favre and safety Madieu Williams didn't show much improvement from yesterday with their concussion tests.

"(Favre) didn't fare as well so we'll see what happens tomorrow. Madieu is about the same, he didn't do as well, he still has some symptoms," Frazier said.

Likewise, Tyrell Johnson didn't practice and didn't show any improvement with his knee injury, leaving the Vikings thin at safety with only a few days to go until Sunday night's game against an explosive Philadelphia offense.

Peterson returns; Favre still sidelined

Adrian Peterson returned to practice on Thursday after sitting out Monday night's game with a bruised thigh. Peterson didn't appear to be at full strength and had tape or a bandage covering his bruised right thigh, an injury that occurred when he collided with Tarvaris Jackson during a handoff against the New York Giants.

Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said Peterson was also at the morning walkthrough.

"We'll kind of progress it from there and see if he goes through practice," Bevell said before the afternoon session practice.

While Peterson returned, Favre remained sidelined for the second straight day because of a concussion suffered on Monday night.

Also missing from practice were Kevin Williams (unknown), Tyrell Johnson (knee) and Madieu Williams (concussion).

We expect to talk to interim head coach Leslie Frazier after practice to get an update.

Moss' ‘dedication' limited to good weather

Randy Moss spent most of his eight-minute interview Wednesday in Tennessee talking about how much he appreciates the fans in Tennessee and wanting to play there again next year, despite not getting on the field as much as he would like.

He also talked about being more of a team player as he and his career grow older – we shy away from using the word "matures" when it comes to Moss.

"You know I want to be out there with the team, and listening to the fans chanting my name, I want to make plays and bring them out of their seats, because that's what I'm used to doing," Moss said, according to 247sports.com out of Tennessee. "Out of all this stuff that's been going on the last couple of weeks, that's the only thing that hurts is I can't really go out there and play for the fans because they deserve it."

It a familiar refrain for Moss, who talked about how much he missed Minnesota when he arrived via trade in October. But apparently Moss' team concept ends when the weather isn't favorable. Asked if he would have enjoyed playing at TCF Bank Stadium on Monday night, he affirmed his lack of dedication to his doubters.

"No, I really don't. Just for the future, if we play an outdoor game in Minnesota, I think they can have that game check that week. And I'm' not joking, I'm serious," he said.

Moss talked about his appreciation for Brett Favre as well.

"Yeah, I'm a Favre fan. That's said, man, as far as the last maybe two years, all the off-season stuff, I fed into the soap opera stuff – we all here did. I think the history and what Brett Favre has done for this league, it speaks for itself," Moss said. "Just to see him the other night hit that turf, I can't really speak upon it. I'm a big Brett Favre fan. I'm a big Brett Favre supporter. There's not many guys that I look back and follow their careers as much as I did Brett Favre. I love sports and I followed him from Atlanta, all the way to Green Bay, the Jets, Minnesota, it's something to see it end like that."

And the skeptics will also remind you of the effort that Moss gave Favre on a fourth-quarter pass interference penalty against Brandon Meriweather of the Patriots on Oct. 31 when it appeared Moss gave up on a pass that would have scored a touchdown.
