E.J. Henderson named to first Pro Bowl

Vikings middle linebacker E.J. Henderson has been named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.

He joins running back Adrian Peterson and cornerback Antoine Winfield as Vikings in the Pro Bowl this year. Peterson was an original selection to the NFC squad and Antoine Winfield was added as a replacement for Packers cornerback Tramon Williams, who is playing in the Super Bowl. Defensive tackle Kevin Williams was also selected as an injury replacement, but his wife is expecting a baby and he decided not to attend.

Henderson finished the season with 139 tackles, second on the team behind outside linebacker Chad Greenway. Henderson also had seven tackles for a loss, three interceptions, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Henderson played in his 100th career game against New England and played in all 16 games in 2010, the first time that's happened in three years. His 2008 season was limited to four games because of dislocated toes and he fractured his femur in December 2009, ending his season after 12 games.

Could Herschel Walker be Favre-plus?

Herschel Walker, 48, said he wants to make an NFL comeback. We're not sure if he was serious or not, but we're pretty sure he won't be taken seriously in NFL circles.

"I've told everyone that at 50 I might try football again to show people I can do that,"said Walker, now a mixed martial arts competitor, on a conference call with reporters. "I want to be the George Foreman of football, come back and do that one more time."

Try George Blanda, the former quarterback and kicker who didn't take nearly the hits that a running back does and lasted 26 years in the NFL. But Walker says he's never been in better shape.

"I'm a much better-conditioned athlete now than when I was playing football," Walker said.

He played from 1989-91 with the Vikings, rushing for 825 yards and 10 touchdowns in 1991 (his best season with Minnesota), and the Vikings are on his radar.

"The two teams I would come back to play for are Minnesota or Atlanta," Walker said. "It would probably be Atlanta because that's home for me. I'm a Georgia boy. That's just home."

We saw the story too late in the day to entertain a quote from head coach Leslie Frazier at the Senior Bowl, but maybe Frazier and Mike Singletary can make a comeback and try to stop Walker. Or maybe they could all just out for a round of golf.

Vikings complete coaching staff

Last week, amid the announcements that he had hired an offensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, offensive line coach, quarterbacks coach, linebackers coach and switched an assistant position coach from defensive line to offensive line, head coach Leslie Frazier said the running backs coach was the final piece to his coaching puzzle for 2011.

On Monday, the Vikings announced that Frazier has hired James Saxon to coach their running backs. Here is the information the Vikings sent out in a release on Saxon:

Saxon brings 11 years of NFL coaching experience to the Vikings after spending the previous three seasons with the Miami Dolphins as their running backs coach. Saxon has guided eight players over the past 10 seasons to the Pro Bowl, most recently Ronnie Brown in 2008. Saxon thrived in Kansas City helping Priest Holmes, Larry Johnson and Tony Richardson earn Pro Bowl honors a total of seven times in seven years. A sixth-round selection by the Chiefs in 1988, Saxon went on to play eight seasons in the NFL with Kansas City, Miami and Philadelphia as a running back, playing in 111 career games.

Winfield ties franchise CB record for Pro Bowls

With Antoine Winfield being used as a replacement cornerback for the NFC squad on the Pro Bowl, he ties the Vikings' record for most Pro Bowl honors by a cornerback. Winfield will join former Viking Carl Lee as the only cornerbacks in team history to reach the Pro Bowl three times in their career. Lee attended three straight Pro Bowls from 1988-1990 and Winfield has now made it in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Winfield is going in place of Packers CB Tramon Williams, as participants in the Super Bowl don't play in the Pro Bowl.

Winfield was the only member of the Vikings' secondary to appear and start in all 16 games during the 2010 season. He was third on the team in total tackles with 110, the second-highest output of his career. He finished the season with three tackles-for-loss, nine passes defended, two sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown.
