Rice in China, writes about his future

Vikings WR Sidney Rice wrote in his blog, sidneyrice18.com, that he is heading to China today with former Vikings and Gophers safety Jack Brewer.

One of the things Rice will be doing overseas is a one-day football camp.

"I'll sign a couple autographs. I don't think anybody's going to want an autograph because I'm in the NFL. They might want it just because I'm tall," he wrote. "We'll teach them the basics of American football. I'm excited to teach Chinese kids new things about the sport. They're up on the basketball, now it's time to introduce them to the pigskin."

Rice said he is also looking forward to seeing the Forbidden City and the Great Wall.

As for the business of the NFL and the potential work stoppage, the potential free agent said he is hoping to stick with the Vikings.

"It's really out of our hands now as players. Just have to sit back and wait. I'm sure a lot of people are nervous, not knowing what to do with themselves or when we'll be reporting to camp. This is the time of year when most players start thinking about getting in shape and doing what they have to do to get ready to be on the football field," he wrote.

"I have no contract right now but I'm still a Viking. I hope to remain a Viking. Hopefully the players and owners will get something done. I'm anxious to get to next season."

Farwell living the Outback life

For many NFL players, February is a month for rest and relaxation in the recovery process from a physical season. For Heath Farwell and his wife Julie, it's a time for adventure this year.

Farwell, the Vikings' special-teams coverage ace and backup linebacker, is taking a month-long trip to Australia that started late last week, and he got help from someone very familiar with the country – former Vikings punter and Aussie native Darren Bennett. Farwell and Bennett's paths crossed in 2005, Bennett's last year with the Vikings and Farwell's first.

"(He's) been a huge help with the places we need to do, as well as the dealing with the issues they have over there," Farwell said in a text to Viking Update. "I think we are going to luck out because the disasters (flooding and Cylone Yasi, both in the last month) they've had over there are not in the areas we're going."

Among the activities planned for the Farwells:

* Tenting in the Outback for three days.
* Taking Jeeps out to see wildlife.
* Going to the Great Barrier Reef to snorkel.
* Going to Kangaroo Island.
* Visiting Sydney for two days.
* Wine tasting.
* Hiking
* Taking a two-day cruise along the west coast of New Zealand whale watching and viewing the glaciers.

"Super pumped up," Farwell texted before leaving. "We will have a good time!"

Report: Titans interested in Tice

The Tennessee Titans are interested in former Vikings head coach and current Chicago Bears offensive line coach Mike Tice as their offensive coordinator,according to the Chicago Tribune.

Tice had success coaching the offensive lines in Minnesota before he was named head coach under the Red McCombs ownership era. He was fired after the 2005 season, coached in Jacksonville and then was hired in Chicago last year.

The Bears aren't required to allow Tennessee permission to interview Tice, who has never been an offensive coordinator, but he is considered a solid offensive mind and the Titans fired former coordinator Mike Heimerdinger last week after also parting ways with Jeff Fisher as the head coach. Mike Munchak, the Titans' former offensive line coach, was named their head coach.
