No Truth to Culpepper Trade Rumors

As draft trade rumors continue to swirl, so had the notion of two or three teams looking at the Vikings for Daunte Culpepper. None are least not yet.

The Vikings have been the center of some national media rumors about trading QB Daunte Culpepper -- a discussion VU had last month and dismissed. The feeling is that the Vikings wouldn't gain anything by allowing a three-year starter to go away and then draft a QB with no experience that would require a $10-12 million signing bonus -- likely only about $3 million less than Culpepper would command.

While the hottest rumor has centered on the Baltimore Ravens, there has been talk that both the Cardinals and Panthers have expressed an interest if Culpepper is available. Long story short -- he's not. At least not yet.

While contract negotiations have stalled between the Vikings and Culpepper's agent, there is no intention to trade him. If, however, a deal can't be struck by this season, the Vikings could do what the Buffalo Bills did with WR Peerless Price -- slap the franchise tag on him and then work out a trade.

However, expect to see No. 11 in purple this year and, from what VU has been hearing ever since the end of last season, for several years to come.

* Terence Newman was scheduled to visit the Vikings this week, but cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.
* Jimmy Kennedy is in town today to meet with team officials. As of now, he is the player the draft war room insiders think will be available when the Vikings pick at No. 7.
* Michael Bennett's foot is progressing on schedule and, as of yesterday, he has experienced no setbacks in his rehab.
