Record-seekers vs. Saints
GAMES NOTES vs. SAINTS
Toby Gerhart tied a Vikings record for most receiving touchdowns in a game by a running back. He had two against the Saints, matching seven other running backs in team history (and it's one running back record that Adrian Peterson isn't a part of). The others on the list? Chuck Foreman (three times), Bill Brown (twice), Tommy Mason (twice), Rickey Young (twice), Moe Williams, Herschel Walker and Ed Marinaro.
Adrian Peterson's 60 yards gives him his fifth season with 1,000 yards from scrimmage.
Peterson moved into eighth place for most yards rushing in a player's first five NFL seasons with 6,714 yards. Eric Dickerson leads that stat with 8,256 yards.
Peterson is only the sixth Viking to gain 8,000 scrimmage yards in a career, joining Cris Carter (12,407), Randy Moss (9,475), Chuck Foreman (8,936), Bill Brown (8,934) and Robert Smith (8,110). Peterson has 8,009.
Jim Kleinsasser set a team record for most games played by a tight end in team history. At 179 games played, he bested the previous mark of 178, set by Steve Jordan (1982-94).
Christian Ponder moved into second place for most rushing yards by a quarterback in his first season with the Vikings. Peterson has 186 yards rushing, surpassing Joe Kapp's 167 yards from 1967 and trailing Fran Tarkenton's rookie mark of 308 in 1961.
Drew Brees set a team record for pass attempts, completions, yards and touchdowns in the Vikings-Saints series. Brees had 40 attempts, 32 completions and five touchdowns.
The Vikings set an NFL record for most consecutive games without intercepting a pass, extending their streak to nine games. The St. Louis Rams (Nov. 22, 2009-Sept. 12, 2010) and Atlanta Falcons (Sept. 22, 2006-Nov. 10, 2006) shared the previous mark with the Vikings.
The Saints set an opponent record against the Vikings with 36 first downs, breaking the previous mark of 33 by Philadelphia on Nov. 11, 2001.
