When Brian Robison signed a three-year, $14.1 million contract last year, $6.5 million of that was taken up in signing bonuses.
Less than a year later, after hitting some key numbers related to playing time and sacks, Robison had the escalators in his contract kick in, spiking his base salary for 2012 and 2013 and helping him get close to the maximum value from that $14.1 million contract.
Robison's had a $986,000 escalator attached to his 2012 salary, moving it from $726,000 to $1.712 million in 2012. But by hitting his numbers in 2011, he received an even bigger payoff in 2013, as a $3.536 million escalator kicks in, moving his salary from $864,000 to $4.4 million.
In the first year of his three-year deal, Robison had a base salary of $668,000. In addition, he is scheduled to receive the $3 million of his deferred signing bonus five days after the start of free agency in 2012.
With the recent birth of a baby girl in the Robison household, it's been a good start to 2012.
