Scouting Report: LaWaylon Brown

In the fourth in a spring and summer series of analyses on the Vikings' rookie free agents, TFY Draft Preview's Tony Pauline examines the possibilities for former Oklahoma State defensive tackle LaWaylon Brown.

Name: LaWaylon Brown School: Oklahoma State Year: 5Sr

Ht: 6-4 Wt: 300 40: 5.21 Pos: DT

Bio: Two-year starter at both nose guard and defensive tackle. Finished his senior season with 31 tackles, 6 tackles for loss and 3 sacks after 47-6-4 the prior year.

Pos: Wide-bodied interior lineman best defending the run. Plays with forward lean, keeps his feet moving up the field and holds the point against blocks. Strong upper body, wedges between opponents and works to get involved.

Neg: Does not break down well or bend his knees. Lacks agility, flexibility, and only effective in a straight line.

Analysis: Potential back-up at tackle, though he could find a home on the nose for a 3-4 defense.
