Vikes Have Inside Track On Hatchette

Following a strong performance in NFL Europe, Matthew Hatchette may be primed for a return to Minnesota.

After being a colossal flop with the Jets after signing away from the Vikings in 2001, it looked like the career of Matthew Hatchette was over.

But, following a strong showing with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe, Hatchette is ready to make his NFL return -- and it quite possibly will be with the Vikings.

Hatchette was an impressive No. 3 receiver behind Randy Moss and Cris Carter after Jake Reed left for New Orleans. He parlayed that into a big contract with the Jets, but failed miserably to be the first player to try to replace Keyshawn Johnson.

VU has been told as many as five teams have been in touch with Hatchette's agent about talking contract, but, as it stands now, the Vikings are currently viewed as the favorite to get him back.

If he signs, it will likely spell the end of a Vikings career for a WR currently on the roster and muddying an already crowded crop at wide receiver.
