OVERVIEW

A hamstring injury during private workouts prevented Blackmon from performing in the agility tests at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, but teams are well aware of his complete "body of work," likening his on-field performance level to that of his close friend and former teammate, Dez Bryant (Dallas). Regarded as the "cream of the crop" of this draft class, the junior has produced the two best seasons in school history since Bryant left for the National Football League.

Much like Bryant, Blackmon's well-proportioned and muscular frame creates mismatches vs. the smaller cornerbacks and his leaping ability makes it difficult for second-level defenders to combat him going for the ball at its highest point when the split end works over the middle of the field. He shows outstanding body control and balance in his elevation, along with the long arms to extend and secure the pass outside his frame.

Blackmon is a highly competitive pass catcher who might not have blazing speed, but he knows how to take full advantage of his size, strength and array of moves to easily get behind safeties when challenging the deep secondary. That athleticism has seen him develop into an elite red zone threat, as he found the end zone 38 times in his last 25 games.

The junior ranks second in school history and sixth on the Big Twelve Conference all-time record list with 253 receptions, as his 3,564 yards are also second in Cowboys annals, along with placing third on the league career-record chart. He is also second at Oklahoma State with 40 touchdown grabs, fourth-best by a Big Twelve receiver.

Blackmon was a standout wide receiver and defensive back at Plainview High School. He earned consensus All-State honors by the state's coaches, The Oklahoman and the Tulsa World, in addition to receiving All-American accolades from Super Prep. As a senior, he led his team to a 12-1 overall record and an appearance in the semifinals round of the state playoffs while collecting 61 receptions for 1,547 yards (25.36 ypc) and 14 touch-downs. He also carried 21 times for 152 yards and added six special-teams touchdowns, along with four more scores on interceptions.

Blackmon was rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, as that recruiting service listed him as the nation's 91st-best wide receiver and 10th-best prospect from the state of Oklahoma. He was also given a three-star rating by Scout.com, who listed him as the 58th wide receiver recruit in the country. Super Prep considered him the nation's 20th-best wide receiver the 12th-best prospect in the Midlands region.

Blackmon was one of the fast-rising prospects for the 2008 recruiting class and was offered scholarships from Oklahoma State, Colorado, Missouri, Northern Iowa and Tulsa. Ultimately, he elected to stay in-state and committed to the Cowboys. "I like the people, the coaching staff, and the environment, you know, I liked the campus and then the players. I feel like I can fit in with the players," Blackmon said.

Blackmon enrolled at Oklahoma State University in 2008 and retained eligibility by red-shirting as a true freshman. The following season, he saw action in all thirteen games and even managed to start four contests. He delivered 20 receptions for 260 yards (13.00 ypc) and two touchdowns.

Most expected the Oklahoma State passing attack to take a major step back in 2010 with the graduation of quarterback Zac Robinson and the early departure of wide receiver Dez Bryant. However, the emergence of Blackmon, along with signal caller Brandon Weeden, made the Cowboys' aerial game as explosive as ever.

The duo combined to help produce the nation's second-ranked passing offense, as the Cowboys averaged 345.85 aerial yards per contest in 2010. Blackmon himself finished as second in the nation in receptions (9.25 rpg) and first in yards receiving (148.50 ypg) while accounting for 39.64 percent of the offense's aerial yards (4,496).

In his first season as a starter, Blackmon established himself as one of the premier big-play threats in college football. The sophomore recorded seven touchdown receptions of at least 40 yards, including five of at least 60 yards and two that went for 80 yards or longer. Despite carrying the ball just four times, he also added a 69-yard touchdown run.

Few receivers could match Blackmon's performance in 2010. He set an NCAA record by registering at least 100 yards and a touchdown in all 12 games in which he played, and set an NCAA annual record for sophomores with his 1,782 receiving yards, breaking Larry Fitzgerald of Pittsburgh's old mark (1,672 in 2003).

Blackmon's efforts earned him the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the nation's premier wide receiver. The Touchdown Club of Columbus also recognized him as the country's top receiver and presented him with the Paul Warfield Award. He became just the seventh unanimous first-team All-American in Oklahoma State history, added first-team All-Big 12 honors. Blackmon was also named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.

In his own version of the old television show, "Can You Top This?" Blackmon had another stellar performance in 2011, as he joined Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech (2007-08) as the only players to capture the Biletnikoff Award twice, since that award's inaugural season in 1994. The unanimous All-American and All-Big Twelve Conference choice recorded seven 100-yard performances while ranking third in the nation with an average of 9.31 catches and fifth with an average of 117.08 yards receiving per game.

Blackmon's 122 grabs topped his previous school season-record established in 2010, while his 1,522 aerial yards placed third on the Cowboys' annual record chart. He found the end zone eighteen times, ranking third nationally with 110 points scored. He posted at least two touchdown grabs in six contests, capped by three scores vs. Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl, which would be his final game as a Cowboy.

Fresh off his three-touchdown performance in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl win, Blackmon announced he will enter the NFL draft and forego his remaining year of eligibility. He made the proclamation to ESPN's Heather Cox in a postgame interview after catching eight balls for 186 yards in the Cowboys' 41-38 overtime win over Stanford. His announcement had become a foregone conclusion in the weeks leading up to the bowl game. The two-time Fred Biletnikoff Award winner had told ESPN.com on December 7th that he was "pretty sure" the Fiesta Bowl would be his last collegiate game.

The junior closed out his career ranked eighth among active NCAA Football Bowl Sub-division performers with 253 receptions, fifth with 3,564 yards and second with 40 touch-downs. His average of 6.6 receptions (sixth) and 93.79 yards receiving (fourth) also rank with the nation's active leaders.
