Scouting Report: Steve Farmer

Tight end Steve Farmer is relatively new to the tight end position, but TFY Draft Preview's Tony Pauline sees some potential for growing him into an NFL-quality player. Pauline weighs the pros and cons of the Tennessee State product.

Name: Steve Farmer School: Tennessee State Year: 5Sr

Ht: 6-4 Wt: 250 40: 4.83 Pos: TE

Bio: Junior college transfer who came to TSU as a wide receiver. Moved to tight end In 2001 and caught 24 passes for 344 yards with four scores. Posted 13 receptions for 132 yards as a senior.

Pos: Big, strong tight end who flourishes as a blocker. Leverage player, blocks with solid fundamentals and naturally strong. Controls opponents at the point of attack and displays the skills to annihilate linebackers on the second level. Fluid releasing off the line of scrimmage and adequate catching the ball.

Neg: Rarely used in the passing game yet still loses focus. Lacks quickness, explosion and does not make good use of body positioning.

Analysis: Relatively new to the position and still finding his way, but athleticism and growth potential give him a good upside if someone is patient with him.
