Adrian Peterson's summer vacation is no longer. The Minnesota Vikings running back has been busy strengthening his surgically repaired knee and making sure he is in football shape when he is ready to come off the physically-unable-to-perform list.
His goal remains the same as it has since he had surgery to repair the ACL and MCL in his left knee on Dec. 30: Be ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In preparation for that, he'd also like to get in some preseason action.
"I definitely want to play a preseason game and that's the only way to get back to normal – going out there and participate and cutting and dodging guys and playing football, getting back out on the field," Peterson said earlier this week. "Hopefully I will get the opportunity to do that."
Peterson has been going through strength, cardio and endurance training on a daily basis with strength and conditioning coach Tom Kanavy and head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman. Every day has been something different, but pulling a sled with either 50-, 75- or 100-pound weights 40 yards across the field was particularly impressive.
