Burleson Signs, Williams Talks On

As expected, the Vikings announced the signing of WR Nate Burleson Tuesday. The question now is whether the team's other top picks will get done in time.

Nate Burleson made official what VU reported yesterday, signing a three-year, $1.5 million deal with a $579,000 signing bonus Tuesday to increase to three the number of Vikings rookies that have signed.

The question now is whether the other top picks -- DT Kevin Williams, LB E.J. Henderson and RB Onterrio Smith -- will be signed and in camp by the time it opens Friday.

VU has been told that, while the Vikings continue to spout the rhetoric that all rookies will be signed and in camp when they report Friday and the first practice comes Saturday, insiders fear Williams won't be done in time and that Henderson and Smith will be 11th-hour signings at best.

The problem with Williams' contract is that it is expected to be convoluted and complicated -- allowing Williams to earn money earmarked for the seventh overall pick by meeting performance incentives. While the deal is expected to be agreed on, there are some doubts as to whether all the language can get completed before it's time to report to training camp.
