Scouting Report: Juston Wood

Quarterback Juston Wood put up extremely impressive numbers his junior year, but was more average last year. His physical limitations may hinder his chances in the NFL or his savvy may give him a roster spot, according to TFY Draft Preview's Tony Pauline.

Name: Juston Wood School: Portland State Year: 5Sr

Ht: 6-0.5 Wt: 207 40: 4.81 Pos: QB

Bio: Celebrated Division I-AA passer who finished his senior season completing 54.3 percent of his passes for 2,211 yards with 13 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. All-Conference and All-America choice as a junior, throwing for 59.9 percent, 3,200 yards, 23 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Played sparingly his first two seasons in the program. All-Academic choice the past four seasons.

Pos: Accurate thrower who makes good decisions in the pocket. Sets up with solid fundamentals, throws with an over the top delivery and very effective within 15 yards. Throws a catchable ball, nicely times the outs and takes the safe underneath outlet rather than forcing his passes down the field. Sells the play-action pass and displays the ability to elude the rush.

Neg: Only marginal arm strength and cannot drive the ball downfield or zip the outs. Accuracy worsens the further down the field he throws the ball. Short and has passes batted away.

Analysis: Tore up the competition as a junior, then came back to earth last season. His feel for the position and intellect for the game could make him desirable to have on the sidelines as a third quarterback.
