The Percy Harvin trade rumors have come to fruition.
The Vikings have reached a deal to trade the disgruntled, talented and versatile receiver to the Seattle Seahawks, according to FOX Sports, pending Harvin passes a physical with the Seahawks and is able to work out a long-term contract extension. Both of those issues are expected to be addressed in the next couple days.
The deal is expected to yield the Vikings the Seahawks' first-round pick (No. 25 overall) and a seventh-rounder in this year's draft, as well as a third-round pick next year. That would give the Vikings picks at No. 23 and 25 in the first round and 11 picks overall this year.
While clubs can discuss trades at any time, this year the trading period doesn't start until 3 p.m. Central Tuesday, the same time that free agency starts.
The rumors of Harvin wanting a trade and the Vikings considering a trade have been ongoing. Harvin asked for a trade during minicamp last summer, but showed up the next day and declined to discuss specifics. The issue didn't reappear until this offseason.
Despite those rumors, Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said last month before the NFL Scouting Combine that the Vikings had "no intent" of trading Harvin.
"We have no intent of trading Percy Harvin. Percy Harvin is under contract and we expect him, just like all of our players under contract, to be here," Spielman said in a roundtable session with reporters. "He is a very good football player, but he knows what he does for our football team."
The Seahawks have first-hand knowledge of Harvin with their offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who was Harvin's coordinator with the Vikings in 2009 and 2010.
Harvin led the Vikings last year with 62 catches for 677 yards and was their leading kickoff returner, averaging 35.9 yards on 16 returns.
However, his season ended early. He was placed on injured reserve after suffering ligament damage in his left ankle. He didn't play in the final seven games of the season.
Reports also indicated Harvin was considering holding out if he doesn't have a contract extension before training camp starts in late July. Harvin is in the final year of his rookie deal and scheduled to make $2.7 million.
