GENERAL ACCOUNT QUESTIONS

Q: What does it cost to register?
A: There is no cost to register. There is only a cost if you sign up for our premium services.

Q: OK, I have a membership. Now what do I do?
A: You can go ahead and use our message boards as a registered user and you can now go ahead and purchase any of our premium services.

Q: I have forgotten my username and/or password. Can you send them to me? A: Yes, go to this page:

Q: I am having trouble logging in to my account. What’s going on?
A: There are a variety of reasons that could prevent you from logging in to your account.

1. Incorrect password
This is probably the most common cause of login problems. Please make sure that you type in your password exactly as it was created. Passwords are case sensitive (small and capital letters count as different). Make sure that you are using the correct password for this account. You can have your password emailed to you by clicking "My Account" in the top right part of the front page and then clicking the "Can’t remember your password" link.

2. Popup windows disabled
If you have software that kills popup windows or disallows popping up a new browser window, you will not be able to login. You will need to disable this software when you login.

3. Cookies disabled
Your browser must be set to allow cookies. If you set your browser to disallow cookies, or if you have cookie-killing software installed, you will not be able to login. See the help menu with your individual browser for details on how to allow cookies.

4. Email address/username
The login form’s first text box accepts either your email address or your username (if you have chosen a username). Make certain that you type your email address or username correctly. Users frequently change their email address and then try to login using the old email address. Please be sure that you enter the current email address (or username) for your account.

Q: I've recently changed my email address. How do I update my account?
A: You can update your account information, including email address. Click on the "My Account" link in the upper right of the front page of the site. Login if prompted, then click the "My Member Profile" link and make any modifications as required.

Q: What do I need in order to register?
A: You need a valid email address. Make sure the address you use is an active account.

Q: Why do I need a membership account on Scout.com?
A: There are several reasons why you need a membership account on Scout.com:

1. So you can use our message board system as a registered user

2. So you can purchase premium services from your favorite web sites on Scout.com. Currently this includes premium content and premium message boards.

Q: Why do you need my e-mail address?
A: Your address will be used to confirm changes to your account, and to notify you of premium service changes or new service offerings.

 


BILLING/PAYMENT QUESTIONS

Q: Can I pay for a subscription using a check or money order?
A: Absolutely! We will accept checks or money orders for annual subscriptions to the web site. (Unfortunately, we cannot accept payment-by-check for monthly subscriptions at this time). When making out the check, put the email address used for your account in the memo field. That way we will know the account to credit for the subscription.

After we receive the check, we will activate your subscription. You will be contacted by email when the account is activated.

Q: How can I update my credit card information used for billing?
A: Click the "My Account" link in the upper right of the front page of VikingUpdate.com. Login if prompted, then click the "My Subscriptions" link. Then click the "Change my billing card" link, enter your new information, and click "Update"

Q: How can I view the status (type, expiration date, etc) of my subscriptions?

A: Account status information is available by clicking on the "My Account" link in the upper right of the front page of the site. Login if prompted, then click "My Subscriptions" to view subscription status.

Q: How do I cancel my subscription?
A: For your account security, we request that all members perform any account maintenance, including subscription cancellations, via our secure web interface.

To do so, click the "My Account" link in the upper right of the front page of the site. Login if prompted, then click the "My Subscriptions" link. To cancel any subscriptions, click the "Cancel this subscription" link that appears directly below the pertinent subscription, then follow the instructions on the ensuing confirmation page.

 


TOTAL ACCESS PASS QUESTIONS

Q: What is VikingUpdate.com’s Total Access Pass?

1. A VikingUpdate.com Club Membership gives you a number of perks. We continue to offer our daily updates for free, but more stories and features are going up now more than ever before. The only way for us to provide this level of inside information is to charge for it, just like we charge for our newspaper subscriptions. You'll find more free-agent news, more predraft news, more post-draft reaction, more off-season rumors, more mimicamp and training camp coverage and more in-season news than ever before as a VikingUpdate.com Club member.

2. You will have access to premium stories on all other sites within Scout.com network, meaning you may know more about an opponent than their fans do. Is there anything better than that? It's always good to know the scoop before the other guy, and you'll get that through the VikingsUpdate.com’s Total Access Pass. Plus, you have access to all the college sites and recruiting sites in the network.

3. You will also have access to VikingUpdate.com Club-only message boards. Only those signing up for Total Access Pass at VikingUpdate.com will have access to certain boards, which means the inter-team flaming that invariably pops up on other message boards won't be an issue there. You'll be interacting with only VikingUpdate.com members and members of the Viking Update staff, who will answer your questions.

Q: I have Total Access Pass. Why can't I get into all premium forums?
A: The Total Access Pass only allows access into the premium forums on the site where you subscribed. The reason for this is that the intense rivalries between college and pro teams often leads fans of other teams to disrupt forums of their rivals. We want to make sure that all subscribers have a great experience on TheInsiders. Restricting access to premium forums to fans of that team helps to ensure that these forums are not disrupted.

Q: I upgraded to TAP, but still had time left on my old subscription. What now?
A: What happens is that you are instantly upgraded to TAP, but you continue to pay your old rate for the life of that subscription. The additional time you subscribed to TAP is added to the end of the subscription. So if you bought a year-long TAP and had three months left on your current subscription, you get TAP for a year and three months, but pay at the old rate for the next three months.

Q: What do I get with my subscription to Total Access Pass?
A: With Total Access Pass, you get access to ALL of the web sites on TheInsiders. You can read articles on all the NFL, college football, recruiting and draft sites. You can also read HotNews on all of these sites. The ability to read articles can also get you into other features, such as premium chats.

One key item to remember is that you need to sign up at the site where you want premium message boards. When you buy Total Access Pass, you get the premium message boards only at that site, but you get articles, HotNews, etc, everywhere!

 


MESSAGE BOARD QUESTIONS

Q: How do I change my username?
A: Once you have established a username for your membership account, the username cannot be changed.

Q: I am trying to register my username for the message board but keep getting a message that says my username is already in use. What can I do?
A: You will need to choose a username that has not already been chosen. If your preferred username is already in use, try changing it slightly, for example, by adding a numeral to the end of it.

Q: I'm having problems logging into the message boards. What should I do?
A: You may have popup windows disabled. If you have software that kills popup windows or disallows popping up a new browser window, you will not be able to login. You will need to disable this software when you login.

OR

Your browser cookies may be disabled. Your browser must be set to allow cookies. If you set your browser to disallow cookies, or if you have cookie-killing software installed, you will not be able to login.

Q: Why can't I get into the premium forums?
A: There are several things to make sure of before contacting us about problems accessing the forums:

1. Ensure that you are properly logged in. Your name should be visible as "Logged in as ..." on the forums. You should also be able to get access to premium articles.

2. Make sure that your subscription specifically reads "VikingUpdate.com Total Access Pass" or something similar. You can only get access to premium forums on the site where you purchased your subscription. If you purchased your subscription on the wrong site by mistake, you will need to cancel it and sign up again via the VikingUpdate.com home page.

3. If have verified that you are correctly logged in and have an appropriate subscription, you can write us at webmaster@vikingupdate.com. When writing, please provide us with the type and version of the browser you are using, the operating system on your computer, and whether you are attempting to log in via your home computer or a computer at your place of work. Please be specific about the problem.

Q: How do I change my ezboard preferences?
A: Ezboard preferences include items like:
* use emoticons in my posts
* enable HTML in my posts
* including a custom signature or personal icon
* forum display options
To make changes to these and other ezboard preferences, login to your account, go to message boards, click My Control Center, and click the Edit Preferences button.

Q: I use AOL 5.0, and am having trouble using the site. What's wrong?
A: If you like AOL and can upgrade, we strongly recommend an upgrade to later versions of AOL. Version 5 causes some known problems, particularly while logging in to message boards. If you can't upgrade your version of AOL due to disk space or other concerns, you can configure other browsers to work with AOL 5.0.

You should be able to use any browser of your choosing over an AOL Internet connection. You just need to configure the browser to use the 'LAN' (local area network) rather than try to establish a Dial-Up Networking connection: In Internet Options (Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections), choose NOT to dial a connection, but use the LAN (local area network).

Launch AOL and your chosen web browser. Use the AOL software to establish your Internet connection. Once you've finished checking your mail or whatever, minimize the AOL browser and go surfing with the other browser. We have had success with visitors who have downloaded MSN Explorer, for example, and used that with their AOL dial-up connection.

PRINT MAGAZINE FAQs

Q: What is the print version of Viking Update?
A: Viking Update is a fan publication owned by former Viking Bob Lurtsema. It is published 24 times a year — weekly from training camp to the end of the regular season when the Vikings are playing, with addition season wrap-up issues in January and February, a predraft issue in April and a post-draft/minicamp issue in May.

Q: Does the Viking Update magazine/online combo include first-class mail for the magazine?
A: No, it does not. A first-class print subscription is an additional $30 per year. Please contact the circulation department by emailing vusub@skypoint.com to upgrade to a first-class print subscription.

Q: How do I sign up for the print publication?
A: If you want to get the print version and online version together, that is available by clicking on the headline of a premium article (the ones with a star behind them). To sign up for a print subscription only, go here:

A: During the season, please allow 2-4 weeks for your first issue to arrive. During the off-season, it depends on the mailing date of the next issue. You can e-mail vusub@skypoint.com to find out that information.
