The Vikings started the season with Kevin Williams unable to play because of injury and Jerome Felton suspended, but their list of missing starters is growing.
Eight starters from their opening game have either been ruled out or doubtful for Thursday night's game against the Washington Redskins.
On offense, that includes TE Kyle Rudolph, who is out four to six weeks with a fractured foot, RT Phil Loadholt, who suffered a concussion Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys and G Charlie Johnson, who suffered an elbow injury and has been declared doubtful.
The hits are worse on defense.
DT Fred Evans, who was starting the opener for Williams, is out with a knee injury, and NT Letroy Guion is doubtful with chest and knee injuries.
The worst of it is in the secondary, where starting safeties Jamarca Sanford and Harrison Smith are both out. Sanford will miss his second straight game with a groin injury and Smith is out until at least December with turf toe. Cornerback Chris Cook will miss his second straight game with a hip injury and his third game of the season, continuing an injury-riddled career to this point.
Others making appearances on the Vikings' final injury report are RB Matt Asiata (shoulder), who has been ruled out, and TE Rhett Ellison, another opening-day starter who is questionable with an ankle injury that has caused him to miss the last two games.
Cornerbacks Xavier Rhodes (shoulder) and Josh Robinson (chest) are both listed as probable and will be the likely starters, at least in the nickel defense. Linebacker Chad Greenway has played through a wrist injury and is once again listed as probable.
The Redskins are in much better shape for Thursday's game.
RB Chris Thompson is the only player listed as questionable, and no others are doubtful or out. Thompson has a shoulder injury and was a full participant the last two days of practice. The other five players listed on Washington's injury report, including LB London Fletcher (knee), are all probable and have practiced fully the last two days.
