Vikings announce overhauled coaching staff

The Vikings announced their new coaching staff Thursday, keeping seven from the previous staff, including special teams coordinator Mike Priefer.

The Vikings officially announced the completion of the team's coaching staff Thursday. While many of the hirings had already been leaked, the team waited until the entire staff was completed before making the announcement.

Mike Zimmer's coordinators are Norv Turner on offense, George Edwards on defense and Mike Priefer was retained as special teams coordinator while Chris Kluwe's allegations of homophobia against Priefer continue to be investigated – claims that Priefer has vehemently denied.

The assistant coaching staff is as follows:

Robb Akey – Assistant Defensive Line

Jeff Davidson – Offensive Line

Ryan Ficken – Assistant Special Teams

Johnathan Gannon – Assistant Defensive Backs/Quality Control

Jerry Gray – Defensive Backs

Jeff Howard – Defensive Assistant

Klint Kubiak – Assistant Wide Receivers/Quality Control

Andre Patterson – Defensive Line

Drew Petzing – Coaching Assistant

Kevin Stefanski – Tight Ends

George Stewart – Wide Receivers

Scott Turner – Quarterbacks

Kirby Wilson – Running Backs

Adam Zimmer – Linebackers

In a statement of the assembling of his staff, Zimmer said that the Vikings did their due diligence in selecting what they felt were the right men for the job.

"I am very excited about the coaching staff that we put together," Zimmer said. "Rick Spielman and I spent a lot of time talking to numerous candidates to ensure that we found the right coaches for this organization. Building a team that consistently wins all starts with coaching. We have an experienced and diverse staff that will work tirelessly to get the most out of our players. This offseason will be a great chance for us to work together and prepare for the upcoming season."

Zimmer kept seven coaches from the previous staff – Priefer, Davidson, Ficken, Howard, Kubiak, Stefanski and Stewart, although some of them were given different duties.
