The Vikings will open their two-year run of games at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium with the Oakland Raiders in the preseason opener on the weekend of Aug. 7-9.
The NFL announced the opponents and order of those opponents for preseason games this year, with the Vikings starting out the preseason with two home games (vs. Oakland and then the Arizona Cardinals the weekend of Aug. 14-16) before finishing off the second half of the preseason with two road games – at the Kansas City Chiefs (Aug. 21-23) and the Tennessee Titans on Aug. 28-29.
The Vikings are playing their next two seasons at TCF Bank Stadium while their new stadium is being constructed on the site of the now-demolished Metrodome.
The exact dates and times of the preseason schedule haven't been finalized yet, and the regular-season schedule is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Vikings started their offseason conditioning program this week and their three-day veteran minicamp will start April 29.
The announcement of the preseason schedule has importance on the scheduling of training camp.
Veterans with at least one pension-credited season, other than quarterbacks or injured players, can report to training camp no earlier than 15 days prior to the team's first scheduled preseason game or July 15, whichever is later. Rookies and first-year players are permitted to report seven days prior the club's earliest permissible mandatory reporting date for veterans.
The Vikings have typically had all players report on the same date, usually reporting on the last Thursday of July and starting practice the following day, on a Friday that is two weeks before the first full weekend of preseason games.
