Cordarrelle Patterson is 'on a mission'

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner is never one to shy away from hyping up his players.

Can you handle more Cordarrelle Patterson exaltation? Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner can give it to you.

Turner told Bleacher Report this week that Patterson has had a great offseason and has looked "like a guy on a mission" leading up to a season in which the Vikings want to greatly expand his offensive duties.

To that goal, the Vikings lined Patterson up at all three wide receiver spots during OTAs and are pushing him to polish up his route-running. Turner said Patterson has "done really well" with the mental aspects of moving around the formation and everything else that has been thrown his way by his coaches.

Fantasy Analysis

In the end, the Vikings' plan is to have Patterson spend most of his time as the "X" receiver as the team tries to get him into as many one-on-one matchups as possible.

Patterson's route-running is understandably sloppy. He played just one season of high-level college football and was able to produce last year just because he is a freakish athlete with a background running track. Once he cleans up his fundamentals, the Vikings see Patterson as the total package.

Fantasy owners do, too. He has already worked his way up to high-end WR2 territory, and it's only late June. As we get into July and August, and Patterson creates some highlight plays during the preseason, it's not far-fetched to think that Patterson will end up being drafted as a low-end WR1. I would tell people to tap the breaks -- again, he's a raw, 23-year-old athlete with one pro season under his belt and a shaky QB situation -- but there seems to be no stopping this train. This post only helps speed it up.
