Florida ‘up there’ for Westry

One corner who left a good impression on Florida’s coaching staff at the Will Muschamp football camp was 6’4 cornerback Chris Westry of Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf, who left camp with an offer. Westry says he will “most likely” be in attendance under the lights this Friday.

Westry is a tall, physical corner who’s 40 was clocked at 4.41. The same as Jaylen Watkins at the NFL combine.

Since leaving Florida’s camp, Westry received an offer from Auburn, who joined his top five. Not in any particular order, Westry’s top five right now are Auburn, Florida, FIU, USF, and Ohio State. However, he says Florida is “pretty high up there.”

“I guess mainly because I’m a Florida dude, that’s really the main reason why I like it. I like that they play physical. They play with the big guys. It’s a pretty nice school and I just like the way they play.”

When deciding what school to commit to, Westry is mainly looking at the roster.

“You have to look at the people that are already there. You have to look if they have got a lot of younger guys.”

Other decision factors are living conditions and he puts education first.

It’s a tough task to find tall corners who can move like the smaller receivers and Westry knows that moving into his senior year. In response to what professional he could compare himself to, Westry says “I don’t really watch much football. I wouldn’t like to compare myself to anyone, I just like to play my game.”

“Being tall, the shorter guys, their hips and their footwork, its so much easier to break and what not.”

He says during his senior year he plans to work on his footwork and being mentally disciplined.
