Vikings’ initial 53-man breakdown

The Vikings kept 10 defensive backs and only two tight ends, as well as two fullbacks, on their initial 53-man roster.

With the Vikings releasing 19 players, placing two on injured reserve and having Jerome Simpson move to the reserve/suspended list, they made it to the NFL-mandated 53-man roster on Saturday.

Here is a look at that initial roster, realizing that changes can be made in the coming hours and days as they comb the released players from other teams. The 10-man practice squad can be established after 11 a.m. Central on Sunday.


Kept: Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater, Christian Ponder.
Released none.


Kept: Adrian Peterson, Matt Asiata, Jerick McKinnon and fullbacks Jerome Felton and Zach Line.
Released: Joe Banyard, Dominique Williams.

Released: Kain Colter, Donte Foster.
Suspended: Jerome Simpson for three games.
