Tate, Smith To Miss Miami Game

A potentially severe shoulder injury will sideline Robert Tate Friday, leaving the Vikings critically shorthanded at cornerback.

For the most part, the Vikings have come out of their first three games pretty solid on the preseason injury front, but, Robert Tate has been the exception.

Tate, who suffered a shoulder injury early in Indy game, will miss tomorrow's game at Miami and is fueling speculation that the Vikings may up their efforts to sign a free agent corner.

In other injury news, Fernando Smith continues to be slowed by injuries and will also miss Friday's game. In perhaps even bigger news, LB Craig Sauer flew to Texas Wednesday to see a specialist about his injured foot -- an injury that simply isn't healing. There are people within the Vikings organization that believe that Sauer will not play another game with the team and will be released next week in a cap related move.

* The Vikings claimed LB Rahim Abdullah off waivers from Cleveland Wednesday. In order to make room on the roster for him, the team cut DE Lemanzer Williams.
* With all the talk about Cortez Kennedy still swirling, the defensive tackle has scheduled a visit with the New Orleans Saints today.
