As VU reported earlier this month, the Vikings were in the process of trying to get league approval to retire Korey Stringer's number. Thursday, the team announced it will be done.
The Vikings will retire Stringer's number Nov. 19 in a ceremony coinciding with the Monday night game against the Giants.
Stringer will be the fourth Viking to have his number retired, joining Fran Tarkenton (10), Jim Marshall (70) and Alan Page (88).
A fifth Viking, center Mick Tingelhoff, will have his No. 53 retired Nov. 25 when the Vikings play the Bears.
* As was the norm Thursday night in final preseason games, the Vikings will likely play their frontline players for just one quarter tonight vs. Miami in hopes of avoiding any serious injuries.
* The injury to Fernando Smith may be a little more serious than first thought. That was the word of one Vikings source of VU's when the team announced it has re-signed DT Tim Engelhardt and released TE Jeff Kostrewa.
