Minnesota Vikings guard Brandon Fusco is officially listed as questionable on Friday’s final injury report, but he was a full participant in practice for the first time this week.
Fusco suffered a concussion in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions but didn’t miss a play. He told Viking Update after the game, before the concussion was diagnosed, that he got hit under the chin by linebacker Stephen Tulloch, but since he remains in the NFL’s post-concussion protocol he hasn’t been allowed to speak to the media this week.
The fact that he was a full participant on Friday should be an encouraging sign.
“He’s continuing to go through the protocol,” head coach Mike Zimmer said. “We’ll know shortly.”
Defensive tackle Shamar Stephen has been dealing with a knee injury but hasn’t missed a game and was a full participant in practice all week.
The full injury report for the Vikings and Chargers is below.
- Former Vikings center Mick Tingelhoff will receive his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring at a halftime ceremony on Sunday.
It’s also alumni weekend for the Vikings with the organization hosting a reception at a hotel.
“It’s great. We love having former Vikings here,” Zimmer said. “We’ve got Mick Tingelhoff’s Hall of Fame bust up in the lunch room so that’s kind of cool. It’s always good to have these guys back. These guys have all, including my guys, they’ve all busted their rear ends for this organization and for the fans here so we always want to make them feel special.”
Tingelhoff’s Hall of Fame bust was moved to the locker room for the players to see after Friday’s practice.
- Offensive coordinator Norv Turner has maintained an even keel this week in preparation to face the team he used to coach.
“He hasn’t said much about it, honestly,” Zimmer said. “He probably wants it. He’s a lot like me, I guess. I want it, too.”
- Coming off a win in Week 2, Zimmer said earlier this week it was a good week to be demanding.
“I was probably fairly demanding Wednesday, but they responded well,” Zimmer said on Friday. “They came out and they practiced good today, yesterday. … I’m going to make sure they understand the task at hand and the things we have to do and the way we have to work and what my expectations are. But I’m not going to be a jerk just to be a jerk.”
- After fumbling twice on Sunday, not including one that was nullified by a defensive penalty, Adrian Peterson’s ball security has been a topic of discussion this week.
“He’s been good,” Zimmer said. “I’ve talk to him several times, joking around about some things, but Adrian understands.”
In Week 1, rookie DE Danielle Hunter was active and Justin Trattou inactive. They reversed roles in Week 2, but it remains to be seen which of them is active on Sunday.
“(Hunter) has some unique abilities and I do think this is a game we could use him in,” Zimmer said, “but we’ll just have to see.”
