Minnesota Vikings sign former Minnesota Gopher to practice squad

The Minnesota Vikings filled an open practice squad spot with a former Minnesota Gophers safety.

The Vikings announced the signing of former Gophers safety Brock Vereen to the practice squad, a position open after the Houston Texans signed LB Brian Peters off the Minnesota practice squad.

Vereen was waived by the Chicago Bears after playing in three games with them this season. The Valencia, Calif., native played in all 16 games with the Bears during his rookie campaign in 2014, starting four and recording 39 tackles (30 solo), one interception and one forced fumble. He was initially selected by Chicago in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Vereen spent his four-year collegiate career at the University of Minnesota. During his time at Minnesota, Vereen started 36 of 47 collegiate games in the Gophers secondary and was named a first-team All-Big Ten selection following his senior year.
