Injury report: Sharrif Floyd, Adrian Peterson added to Minnesota Vikings injuries

The Minnesota Vikings defensive line is getting thinner with Sharrif Floyd joining Everson Griffen as non-participants Wednesday, with Adrian Peterson and Matt Asiata limited at running back.

Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd joined Everson Griffen (illness) and Justin Trattou (foot) as the defensive linemen not participating in Wednesday’s practice, and RB Adrian Peterson was limited with a finger injury.

Floyd was out Wednesday with knee and ankle injuries suffered in Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Griffen is expected back this week but was undergoing some tests in what head coach Mike Zimmer hoped would be the last hurdle before his best pass-rushing defensive lineman returns to work.

Peterson suffered a hand injury in the second half of Sunday’s game and was one of four Vikings limited in Wednesday’s practice, joining CB Terence Newman (ankle), T T.J. Clemmings (knee) and RB Matt Asiata (rib).

WRs Charles Johnson (rib) and Jarius Wright (hand) were full participants.

While Johnson, who was listed as questionable last week but didn’t play, was practicing Wednesday, it appears rookie Stefon Diggs, who has 216 yards receiving in his first two games active when Johnson was out, will be a starter in place of Johnson.

Cornerback Josh Robinson returned to practice for the first time since the regular season started, but he isn’t sure when he will get his first game action.

The Minnesota Vikings have three weeks to make a decision on that and the backup cornerback is waiting for the news.

“We’ve been working since training camp so I’m in pretty good shape. Now I’m just waiting on them to make decisions,” he said after Wednesday’s practice.

“They haven’t given me any word. My thing is, work and when they call my number be ready.”

The Vikings are pretty well set at cornerback for now. Terence Newman and Xavier Rhodes are the starters, with Captain Munnleryn the experienced nickel cornerback. Rookie Trae Waynes has started to see some playing time in place of Newman, too.

Jabari Price and Marcus Sherels offer additional support, so there is no need to rush Robinson back, although he’s been ready for some time now after suffering a pectoral injury in the summer.

“I feel comfortable with it, no problems with it. I’m just ready to go to work,” he said.

He’s been a full participant in film sessions so getting back on the practice field and honing his techniques once again is the last step before returning to the 53-man roster.

“(Technique) is something I’ve been working on the entire time. Now it’s just putting a body in front of me and actually doing it. The first day went good,” he said.

“It’s not difficult. You’ve been around it, you’ve been involved as far as meetings and taking mental reps. Now it’s going through actual physical reps.”
