As Everson Griffen returned to practice following his Sunday hospitalization, there is little concern about his availability for Sunday but that’s not the case with fellow defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd.
Floyd, who suffered ankle and knee injuries against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, didn’t practice again on Thursday and head coach Mike Zimmer wasn’t sure if Floyd would be able to play Sunday.
Floyd finished the game after the injury but hasn’t practiced this week. That doesn’t necessarily put him out for Sunday, however.
“He knows pretty much what’s going on so I don’t think it would be too difficult,” Zimmer said when asked if Floyd would be able to play with limited or no practice this week.
If he can’t play, it could mean Kenrick Ellis, signed on Tuesday, would get some rotation on the defensive line.
“That position is not a lot of learning in the system. It’s similar to what he’s had before. He’s more learning the stunts and blitzes and things like that as opposed to the true technique of what we’re doing,” Zimmer said of Ellis.
“I think he’s got a chance to be a pretty good nose tackle. He’s strong, has got good quickness, massive. He moves good.”
Zimmer said Griffen looked good in his first day of practice this week after getting tests done earlier in the week. Zimmer declared Griffen “ready to go.”
Adrian Peterson appeared on the injury report this week, too, with a hand injury, but Zimmer doesn’t believe it will affect Peterson’s ball security.
“We keep talking to him about it and keep addressing it. I don’t think it’s about the hand,” Zimmer said. “The part that he’s got nicked really doesn’t have anything to do with the ball.”
