Running back Adrian Peterson returned to practice Friday after missing the Wednesday and Thursday sessions with hip, ankle and finger injuries.
“He was full go and he’ll be ready on Sunday,” Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said after Friday’s practice.
Peterson, indeed, practiced in full Friday, according to the injury report, and is listed as probable.
Zimmer said on Thursday he believed Peterson will be “fine,” despite the running back not practicing then, but also admitted there is a balance between getting Peterson his carries (he’s averaging 20 a game) and making sure he doesn’t take too many hits.
“That’s the reality of it. I’m built for it,” Peterson said when asked if he was taking more contact early in runs this year. “I’ve been taking a lot of hits this season, but this last game it was a couple of solid hits that resonated. It’s just all part of taking care of the body, let the body rest up.”
DT Sharrif Floyd remained out of practice Friday with knee and ankle injuries and DE Justin Trattou was not back from a foot injury. TE Rhett Ellison was running on the side at Friday’s practice as he recovers from a concussion but didn’t practice. LB Audie Cole (finger) was limited Friday. All four were ruled out for Sunday.

ART OF THE BLITZ
Zimmer’s blitzes are becoming a staple of the Vikings defense as the players are becoming more accustomed their responsibilities.
“Our guys have done a good job of understanding really everything that we’re trying to get done, the communication, the looks that we’re trying to give, the coverages when we do stuff off of it,” Zimmer said. “This team has caught on pretty fast with the things that we’re trying to do. It’s evolved faster than probably I thought it would.”
Last week against Detroit, six of the Vikings’ seven sacks came when they blitzed and they sent six rushers on two of those blitzes. Part of the puzzle is finding defenders capable of handling the different responsibilities.
“I’ve always found that the smarter guys typically play better so we always look for guys that have intelligence. That doesn’t mean that a guy that takes a little while at certain positions, but at some positions it just helps to have guys that are smart guys,” Zimmer said. “… I don’t think we’re that complex that somebody that isn’t brilliant can’t play in it because we’ve had a lot of guys like that. We take smart guys, but we try to make it simple so they understand it.”
