Vikings nose tackle Linval Joseph was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his performance against the St. Louis Rams.
Joseph had 10 tackles, half a sack, three tackles for a loss and two quarterback pressures against the Rams, who entered the game with rookie running back Todd Gurley averaging 141 rushing yards in his previous four starts. Gurley was held to 89 yards rushing and Joseph was a big part of that, including stuffing Gurley for a 6-yard loss on the first play of overtime.
Joseph becomes the fourth Vikings defensive tackle to win the award, joining John Randle, Keith Millard and Kevin Williams. Williams was the last Vikings defensive tackle to win it in 2004. Randle won the award five times from 1993 to 1999.
The Vikings defense is ranked second in points per game allowed and second in third-down conversions allowed.
Joseph is fourth on the Vikings with 43 tackles, tied for first in tackles for loss with eight, and third with 19 quarterback hurries.
