Eric Kendricks returns; Matt Kalil, Adrian Peterson on Minnesota Vikings injury report

Eric Kendricks is on track to play Sunday, but Matt Kalil and Adrian Peterson are new additions to the Minnesota Vikings injury report.

Eric Kendricks appears to be on his way back into the starting lineup after being a full participant in Wednesday’s practice for the first time in three weeks.

The Minnesota Vikings rookie, the starting middle linebacker, has missed the last two weeks with a rib injury and the Vikings have been forced to shuffle the lineup to accommodate his absence. In his first game missed, Audie Cole started but was lost for the season in the second half of that game when he fractured his ankle.

Veteran Chad Greenway slid over to play middle linebacker for the first time in his career and deep backup Brandon Watts filled Greenway’s weakside spot. That was the same lineup the Vikings used with last week. So far, they survived Kendricks’ absence with two wins, but with his return to practice Wednesday it appears he is on track to play Sunday in a mathcup between the top two teams in the NFC North.

“I think he should be ready to go. He was kind of close (last week),” Zimmer said.

Last week, Kendricks and strongside linebacker Anthony Barr (hand) didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday, but both were limited on Friday. Kendricks was listed as doubtful and didn’t play; Barr was questionable and did play.

On Wednesday, Barr remained limited but Kendricks was a full participant.

But even without them, the Vikings moved up to the top spot among defenses for points allowed, and going against a Green Bay Packers team with the potential to still put up big points – although they scored only 16 against the Detroit Lions on Sunday – having their young, versatile linebackers in the lineup once again should help.

However, left tackle Matt Kalil didn’t practice with a toe injury and Adrian Peterson was limited with a hamstring injury. Several other Vikings were limited on Wednesday, too.

The Packers listed 14 on their injury report, with Aaron Rodger limited with a right shoulder injury (he admitted he is banged up) and RB Eddie Lacy (groin) a full participant after being inactive on Sunday.
