Harrison Smith limited; Everson Griffen added to Minnesota Vikings injury report

Harrison Smith returned to practice on a limited basis, but another defensive starter joined Linval Joseph and Anthony Barr among the non-participants on Wednesday’s injury report.

The Minnesota Vikings are moving toward full strength with their starting safeties at least, even if a couple of their other top defenders weren’t on the practice field Wednesday as they prepared for the Chicago Bears.

Harrison Smith, after being inactive last week against the Arizona Cardinals, was limited on Wednesday.

“I’m alright. I moved around a little bit today,” he said.

After trying to come back from a knee injury and starting the Seattle Seahawks game, Smith played only 10 snaps before he left that game with a hamstring injury that was “pretty related” to his knee injury, causing him to sit out the Cardinals game. For some, that would portend a cautious approach this week, but that’s not in Smith’s nature.

“I’m not that careful,” he said. “I count on other people to be careful for me.”

Smith was making no declarations about his availability for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, but at least he did OK in his limited participation Wednesday.

“I was moving around alright. I’ve just got to keep seeing how it goes,” he said. “There’s no new news, I guess, but it went well.”

The Vikings were without several other defensive starters at Wednesday’s practice: nose tackle Linval Joseph, who has missed the last two games with a toe injury; linebacker Anthony Barr (groin/hand), who played only seven snaps against the Seahawks and missed the Cardinals game; defensive end Everson Griffen (shoulder); as well as reserve defensive end Scott Crichton (concussion/neck).

In addition, starting safety Andrew Sendejo (knee) and reserve linebacker Brandon Watts (rib) were limited.
