Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after connecting on all five of his field goal attempts, including two from beyond 50 yards Sunday night against the New York Giants.
Walsh is tied for the NFL lead with 32 field goals this season on 37 attempts. He is 6-for-8 from 50 yards or more.
Walsh did miss an extra point, bouncing it off the left upright, and strangely has missed four of his 35 attempts on point-after tries, which come from 33 yards out this year. Still, hitting field goals from 52 and 53 yards when the temperature at kickoff was 13 degrees with an 8 MPH wind deserved his consideration for special teams player of the week.
This year, Walsh is 9-for-9 on field goals inside 30 yards, 11-for-13 from 30 to 39 yards, and 6-for-7 on attempt from 40 to 49 yards.
