Trio of Minnesota Vikings not practicing Thursday

Three key starters didn’t practice on Thursday, three days in advance of the Vikings’ attempt to win the NFC North title.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson didn’t return to practice on Thursday, and Everson Griffen joined Peterson and Linval Joseph among those that didn’t practice.

Peterson missed Wednesday and Thursday practices last week with the ankle injury but practiced in full on Friday and was listed as probable. That could be the timeline he follows again this week, despite head coach Mike Zimmer saying he thought Peterson would practice on Thursday. Peterson talked Thursday about the Packers game Sunday night as if there was no doubt he would play.

Nose tackle Joseph didn’t practice on Thursday as he continues to battle through a toe injury that has plagued him for more than a month and caused him to miss three straight games before coming back Sunday night against the New York Giants.

Joseph is a big part of the Vikings’ run defense that will be needed on Sunday night against Eddie Lacy, who has 534 yards and five touchdowns in five games against the Vikings.

“He doesn’t show up like Harrison (Smith) or (Anthony) Barr because of the position he plays. The things he does helps an awful lot of guys,” Zimmer said of Joseph. “You see him do really powerful, strong, athletic things that are just different than you see from … when Barr came and Harrison came back, you see their athletic ability, their movement and their open-field stuff and he’s more like in a phone booth playing.”

Peterson and Joseph were the only Vikings that didn’t practice on Wednesday, but Griffen joined them on Thursday with a shoulder injury that caused him to be limited on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Matt Kalil (lower leg), Harrison Smith (hamstring) and Sharrif Floyd (knee) were all limited. On Thursday, Kalil moved to a full participant with Smith and Floyd remaining limited.

For the Packers and their extensive injury list, DT B.J. Raji was upgraded to limited participation on Thursday and CB Casey Hayward became a full participant in practice.
