The Minnesota Vikings’ only injury question heading into their Week 17 game against the Green Bay Packers was nose tackle Linval Joseph, and that was made pretty clear on Friday when the Vikings listed him as doubtful on the injury report.
Doubtful became “out” when the Vikings announced their inactive players Sunday night. Joseph has been dealing with a toe injury for more than a month and missed three straight games because of it before coming back to play last week against the New York Giants. He left that game briefly but did return.
Sharrif Floyd will start for Joseph at nose tackle with Tom Johnson taking Floyd’s spot at defensive tackle.
Adrian Peterson (ankle/shoulder) and the rest of the Vikings on the injury report were listed as probable on Friday, meaning they were a “virtual certainty” to play. That list included DT Sharrif Floyd, who could play some nose tackle in Joseph’s absence, LT Matt Kalil (lower leg), S Harrison Smith (hamstring), DE Everson Griffen (shoulder) and back S Anthony Harris (hip) and backup WR Adam Thielen (lower back).
All of them are active for Sunday night’s game.
In addition to Joseph, QB Taylor Heinicke, WR Charles Johnson, LB Brandon Watts, C Nick Easton, T Jeremiah Sirles and DE Zach Moore are inactive.
The most significant of the Packers’ inactives is LT David Bakhtiari, who was listed as questionable with an ankle injury. Also inactive for Green Bay is CB Sam Shields, who was downgraded to doubtful with a concussion. Damarious Randall will start for Shields; no replacement starter was named for Bakhtiari, but Don Barclay is normally his backup.
Also inactive for the Packers are QB Brett Hundley, CB LaDarius Gunter, G Josh Walker, TE Justin Perillo and LB Jayrone Elliott.
DT B.J. Raji (concussion), T Bryan Bulaga (ankle), LB Mike Neal (hip), DT Letroy Guion (foot), CB Casey Hayward (ankle), RB Eddie Lacy (rib), G T.J. Lang (shoulder), C Corey Linsley (ankle), LB Clay Matthews (ankle), LB Nick Perry (shoulder), G Josh Sitton (back) were all probable and are all active.
