Zimmer foundation formed for kids to ‘chase their dreams’

The Mike Zimmer Foundation is kicking off with a private event Saturday.

Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is kicking off the start of his Mike Zimmer Foundation with a private event Saturday near U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Mike Zimmer Founder was formed to honor the life of his late wife – Vikki Zimmer, who died in October 2009 – in order to benefit the local community and “better lives of children in need.”

The mission, in part, according to the foundation: “With the donations contributed from Mike Zimmer and the sponsors that we team up with, we want to not only promote a healthy, active lifestyle and way of living for children, but we also want to motivate less fortunate children and help them chase their dreams.”

The foundation is planning a free football camp for youth, a fundraising golf tournament and strives to help students with scholarships and internships.

Saturday’s event will feature music, player appearances, raffle prizes and a silent auction to raise money. It is not open to the public.

Zimmer will address attendees about plans for the foundation’s future, football, future events and remembering Vikki.
