Alex Boone set to play for Minnesota Vikings, 4 New York Giants out for MNF

The Minnesota Vikings should have Alex Boone back in the starting lineup on Monday night, but the New York Giants are much more short-handed on their active roster.

The Minnesota Vikings’ biggest injury question mark for Monday Night Football has been answered. Guard Alex Boone will play against the New York Giants after progressing in his practice regimen all week.

Boone suffered a hip injury that took him out of Sunday’s win against the Carolina Panthers in the first half. He didn’t practice on Thursday, was limited on Friday and practiced in full on Saturday.

Mike Zimmer said after Saturday’s practice that he anticipated Boone would be ready to play.

“If Zimmer thinks I’m going to play, then I think I might play,” Boone said.

That received further confirmation less than an hour later when the Vikings released their injury report and Boone was even listed as questionable.

“You want to be out there. I thought Jeremiah (Sirles) did a great job stepping in,” Boone said of his replacement in Sunday’s game. “Phenomenal job. Proud of him. But at the same time if you’re not playing you’ve got to be doing something. You’ve got to help out, so I turned to coaching.”

Boone said he is feeling “good” after Saturday’s practice and the extra day between games, with a Monday night game, is especially helpful for him.

“Huge. Felt great,” Boone said. “Everything feels good and we’ll just see what happens tomorrow.”

While the news was generally good on Minnesota’s injury front, DT Sharrif Floyd, who had arthroscopic knee surgery last week, and TE David Morgan (knee) are both out.

Reserve safety Jayron Kearse didn’t participate in Saturday’s practice because of a situation with a tooth, but he, like Boone, wasn’t listed on the final injury designations, so he should be good to play on Monday.

All others were full participants in Saturday’s practice.

The Giants listed four players as “out” for Monday: S Nat Berhle (concussion), T Marshall Newhouse (calf) and DT Robert Thomas (illness) and S Darian Thompson (foot).

CB Eli Apple (hamstring) is doubtful, and RB Rashad Jennings (thumb) and CB Dominque-Rodgers Cromartie (groin) are questionable.

Jennings was limited in Saturday’s practice while the rest of the aforementioned Giants didn’t participate. The injuries in the secondary will leave the Giants extremely thin there.
