Minnesota Vikings’ top pass-catchers not practicing

The Minnesota Vikings’ receiving options were thin for Wednesday’s practice.

The Minnesota Vikings were thin on pass-catchers for Wednesday’s practice.

Receiver Stefon Diggs, who has been dealing with a groin injury, wasn’t at practice on Wednesday and several tight ends didn’t practice either.

Tight end Kyle Rudolph was outside for the start of practice but went inside after stretching. Rudolph’s wife just had twin girls late Tuesday night, but he wasn’t practicing Wednesday because of a clavicle/rib injury.

Diggs and Rudolph represent the Vikings’ top two receivers. Diggs leads the team with 25 catches for 372 yards and also has a touchdown. Rudolph leads the team with three touchdown catches, one in each of the last three games, and is second in receptions (19) and yards (221).

Diggs and Rudolph were the top two skill-position players, minus quarterback, for snaps played on Monday night. Rudolph played in 72 of 74 possible snaps and Diggs was in for 69 of them.

The Vikings were missing two other tight ends, David Morgan and Rhett Ellison, as well. Morgan didn’t play on Monday night because of a knee injury, but Ellison didn’t appear on last week’s injury report. He is dealing with a knee injury

That left the Vikings with only two relatively healthy tight ends for practice – MyCole Pruitt, who missed the first three games with a knee injury but played on Monday, and Brian Leonhardt, who was with the Vikings in the offseason but was just re-signed to the practice squad on Wednesday because of the injuries at that position.

Also not practicing were right tackle Andre Smith, who injured his triceps on the sixth offensive play on Monday, and defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, who hasn’t played since the season opener because of a knee injury that required arthroscopic surgery two weeks ago. Floyd was at least taking part in the stretching portion of practice, a sign that he is working his way back.

For Sunday's opponent, the Houston Texans, TE Stephen Anderson (hamstring) and RB Jonathan Grimes (ankle) didn’t practice, while G Oday Aboushi (toe), T Duane Brown (knee), TE C.J. Fiedorowicz (knee), CB Kareem Jackson (hamstring), WR Braxton Miller (hamstring) and  T Derek Newton (knee) were limited.
