As the Minnesota Vikings continue to wallow in last place for average yards per rush (at 2.7 yards), they haven’t been able to find any better success no matter which one of their three running backs on the active roster is in the game.
On Sunday, each of them had numerous opportunities. Jerick McKinnon played 32 snaps, but he averaged only 2.7 yards on his six carries. Matt Asiata played 23 snaps and rushed nine times, but his average was barely half of McKinnon’s at 1.4 yards per carry. Ronnie Hillman was in for 13 plays, but he averaged 0.5 yards on his four attempts, despite a 9-yard run.
Defensively, the Vikings were forced to go their bench again as injuries mounted. With Captain Munnerlyn inactive, rookie Mackensie Alexander played 14 snaps. With Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr hurt, Audie Cole played nine snaps and Emmanuel Lamur played only one after getting beat for a touchdown on the play immediately following the injuries to Kendricks and Barr.
Kendricks played one snap after his injury, then left the game for good. Barr missed only one snap, the one in which Lamur was beaten for the 4-yard touchdown.
