Warm weather alters Minnesota Vikings Winterfest

The unseasonably warm temperatures have forced the cancellation of one event and a change in location for another for this week’s Vikings Winterfest in Prior Lake.

Above-average temperatures for Minnesota in mid-February have altered some of the events and locations for the Minnesota Vikings’ Winterfest in Prior Lake later this week.

The Coors Light Ice Fishing Contest, originally scheduled for for Saturday, has been canceled and the Winterfest Ice Village on Saturday afternoon has been moved from Charlie’s on Prior to Lakefront Park and will begin at 4 p.m. 

Most of the other events scheduled will remain as planned.

Thursday, February 16

5:30-8:30 p.m. – Everson Griffen, Captain Munnerlyn, Vikings alumni and cheerleaders will be part of the Vikings Country radio broadcast from the Prior Lake VFW, hosted by K102’s Mike Mussman.

Vikings fans can meet alumni and win team prizes while shopping downtown Prior Lake stores and restaurants during that same time period during the Skol and Stroll.

Friday, February 17


5:30-9 a.m. – WR Adam Thielen, FB Zach Line and RB C.J. Ham are scheduled to be part of KFAN’s Power Trip Morning Show from 5:30-9 a.m. live from the Pointe Grill and Bar.

9 a.m.-noon – Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, WR Charles Johnson and Munnerlyn are scheduled to join KFAN’s Paul Allen Show at the Pointe.

During the day – Vikings cheerleaders and Viktor will make special appearances at Prior Lake schools.

4-5 p.m. – Thielen, Johnson, Line and Munnerlyn will sign autographs at Lakers Tavern & Pizza. 

5-6 p.m. – Thielen, Johnson, Line and Munnerlyn will sign autographs at T.J. Hooligans. 

7:30 – The Vikings Rock Winterfest concert will feature rock ‘n roll cover band ”Hairball.” Tickets for the show can be purchased by phone at 952-496-6563, online at Vikings.com/Winterfest or in person at the Mystic Box Office. All proceeds from the concert will benefit Prior Lake 501 (c)(3) organizations through the Prior Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Saturday, February 18

8:30 a.m.-noon – Ham, Johnson, Line, Munnerlyn and Thielen and Vikings alumni will serve pancakes prepared by Vikings head chef Geji McKinney-Banks at the Prior Lake VFW. A limited number of tickets are available for $10 and can be purchased at the Prior Lake VFW prior to the event and at the door on Saturday. All proceeds will benefit Prior Lake 501 (c)(3) organizations through the Prior Lake Chamber of Commerce.

10 a.m.-noon – Former Vikings LB E.J. Henderson and Johnson and Thielen will host a football skills clinic for ages 6-12 at Twin Oaks Middle School.

Noon – The Vikings will join Special Olympics and the City of Prior Lake for their Polar Plunge on Sand Point Beach. 

4-10 p.m. – Fans can enjoy bean bag toss games, photo opportunities and appearances by Vikings alumni and cheerleaders at the Winterfest Ice Village at Lakefront Park. Miller Lite will host an Ice Bar and an Ice Concert featuring live music from Tripwire from 5-7 p.m. and Chris Hawkey from 8-10 p.m. The festivities will conclude with fireworks at 10:00 p.m.
