Minnesota Vikings to visit with another tackle

The Minnesota Vikings agreed to terms with one offensive tackle but are bringing another one for a visit.

After coming to terms on a contract with former Detroit Lions tackle Riley Reiff, the Minnesota Vikings are scheduled to visit with Carolina Panthers free-agent tackle Mike Remmers on Friday, according to Pro Football Talk.

It would be a homecoming of sorts for Remmers, who started his career with the San Diego Chargers, then spent time with the Vikings in 2013, although he didn’t play any games for them. After Minnesota, Remmers kick-started his career in Carolina, where he started five games in 2014, then started every game for them in 2015 and 2016.

Reiff can play right tackle, as he did last year, or left tackle, as he did the previous three years in Detroit, Remmers also has some versatility. He was mostly a right tackle for the Panthers but has the ability to play on the left side, too.

While playing in over 1,000 snaps last year, Remmers garnered a 66.1 grade from Pro Football Focus, about one point lower than the Vikings’ Jeremiah Sirles, who was the fill-in at right tackle.

If Remmers gets out of Minnesota without a contract, he is scheduled to visit the Houston Texans on Saturday, according to PFT.
