Report: Adrian Peterson has another visit scheduled

Interest in Adrian Peterson may have been kick-started, at least with one team that he is reportedly scheduled to visit on Monday.

Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said on social media that he is in no hurry to sign with another team, but he will be taking a free-agent visit to the New England Patriots on Monday, according to ESPN.

LeGarrette Blount was the leading rusher for the Patriots last year, but he remains a free agent, like Peterson, and New England also signed former Bengals running back Rex Burkhead. Blount rushed for 1,161 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2016, but he averaged just 3.9 yards per carry. The Patriots also have Dion Lewis and James White on their roster.

The relatively full backfield in New England might indicate that the Patriots won’t be willing to break the bank to sign Peterson, especially with the signing of Burkhead. The Patriots signed Burkhead to a one-year contract worth $3.15 million.

After a report surfaced that Peterson was asking for at least $8 million in the first year of any contract he signed, Peterson went to social media to say that he is no hurry to sign with a team, but that feeling seemed to be reciprocal among teams with the lack of visits he had scheduled. He said he is looking for the right fit, and playing for a team as successful as the Patriots have been over the last decade would be appealing to Peterson, who is still in search of his first Super Bowl ring.

In 10 years with the Vikings, Peterson has amassed 11,747 yards (16th in NFL history) on 2,418 carries, but the 32-year-old has said many times he believes he can play into his late 30s. However, he missed 15 games in 2014 with legal issues and 13 games last year because of injuries.

Peterson visited the Seattle Seahawks early in free agency, but they signed former Packers back Eddie Lacy.
