The Michael Bennett watch can officially begin in Minnesota. Bennett, the Vikings' starting running back and major component of the explosive Minnesota offensive attack, could be back in uniform in approximately six weeks.
Coming back from offseason foot surgery, Bennett suffered a setback in offseason workouts and had a procedure done that was intended to enhance the region of the foot that was causing him problems. Late Wednesday, The Insiders were informed by a member of the Vikings organization that Bennett's foot is healing well and the standout could return to the team soon.
"We were extremely pleased to get word that the procedure Michael (Bennett) had appears to be a success," a team source said. "Right now, we are going to play it by ear as to what and when he can contribute. But we are encouraged that he may be able to help us this season. We are going to let the process play out.
"Bennett is a big part of what we are doing here, and we are a better football team with him on the field. But we are not going to rush this. When he feels he is ready and the doctors concur, then he will be back."
