There were some quiet concerns about how to handle the Michael Bennett roster situation at Winter Park late last week.
After strong kicking from Jose Cortez on kickoffs, there was some sentiment to keep Cortez another week -- the critical Packer Week in Minnesota -- and let Bennett wait another week.
The logic made sense. Even under a best-case scenario, the plan for Bennett was only to see three to five carries Sunday -- a minimal amount at best that could be countered easily if one or two kickoffs went in the end zone following Vikings scores.
Instead, the team bit its collective lip and made the move. Cortez was released Tuesday and, while no move was made yesterday to fill the spot, it is fully expected that the vacancy will be filled when Bennett is taken from the physically unable to perform list and added to the 53-man roster.
That decision should come as early as today to add Bennett back to the team.
