Pro Football Weekly recently published its list of the top 10 players who, if taken out of the equation, could change a team's season in a "very" negative way. Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper was No. 5 behind Packers quarterback Brett Favre, Rams QB Kurt Warner, Colts QB Peyton Manning and Rams running back Marshall Faulk. After Culpepper, the list included Eagles QB Donovan McNabb, Titans RB Eddie George, Ravens LB Ray Lewis, Jaguars QB Mark Brunell and Raiders QB Rich Gannon.
In the same edition, PFW ran a position-by-position breakdown of players on the verge of a breakthrough season. At defensive tackle there was a three-way tie, which included the Vikings' Chris Hovan, the Giants' Cornelius Griffin and the Buccaneers' Anthony McFarland. Of Hovan, PFW said: "Most improved player on the Vikings now that he is getting to play the three-technique tackle, where he lines up on the guard's outside shoulder. Very quick with excellent hand use and great, great motor."
