A couple of months ago, the Vikings-Chiefs matchup looked like a matchup for the ages. Both teams were the last unbeaten teams in their conferences and each looked poised to make a Super Bowl run.
Two months later, despite a 12-2 record, many think the Chiefs are the second or third (or even fourth) best team in the AFC and, despite their great record, as of today, they haven't even assured a first-round bye yet.
On the other side, you have the Vikings. Losers of six of eight since their 6-0 start, the Vikings are looking to avoid being just the second team in the modern NFL to start 6-0 and miss the playoffs. A loss today would mark the first time all season that the Vikings weren't in first place all season.
This combination of two teams desperate for a win to help control their own playoff hopes will make this game potentially one for the ages. The Chiefs and Vikings both have offenses that can explode and defenses that have struggled to stop balanced offensive attacks.
Forget what the newspaper or pregame show says. The playoffs don't start in two weeks. They start today for the Vikings and Chiefs -- and the loser may feel the same eliminated feeling after the game is over.
