Vikings Taking Time Off To Assess Mistakes

As the Vikings take some time to shut down the season for a few days, there is some concern about their inability to be road warriors.

The Vikings under Dennis Green always had the ability to dominate at home and win enough games on the road to be division champions.

But, if you point to what has happened to the Vikings since their 7-0 start last season, one need look no further than their slide on the ride. In the last nine road games, the Vikings have a 1-8 record -- with the only win coming at Dallas last year. Things have gone from bad to worse, like two blowout games at Tampa Bay by almost identical 41-13 and 41-14 scores, as well as big losses to the Colts, Rams and Giants late last year.

Dennis Green acknowledged that there is a problem with the Vikings winning on the road and said he expects to correct those problems. However, that won't be easy. Five of the final nine games are on the road, including games at Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Baltimore and Detroit.

Needless to say, it won't be easy, but, as it has been all season, the Vikings go into the bye week once again trying to dig themselves out of the hole they dug in the first two games of the season.

TUESDAY NOTES
* Daunte Culpepper visited an ear, nose and throat specialist Monday to see about what can be done to treat his broken nose. While it looks bad, bent and swollen with bruising not just on the nose, but around his eyes as well, Culpepper told VU it looks worse than it feels and, if the Vikings had to play Sunday, he would be ready to go.
* Robert Griffith is confident he'll be ready to play when the Vikings return to action at Philadelphia.
* Former Vikings CB Keith Thibodeaux was signed by Green Bay Monday as the team shuffles its defensive lineup. According to a VU source with the Packers, LeRoy Butler continues to be slowed by injury, which has forced the team to move cornerback Bihawoh Jue to the safety position. With an opening on the depth chart at corner, Thibodeaux was signed to fill that void.
* VU has been told that the Vikings will likely re-sign LB Antonio Wilson to the practice squad as early as today.
