The Vikings thought yesterday that they had missed out on another big-name free agent cornerback -- as with last year and the Lions' signing of Dre Bly.
Instead, VU has been told that Winfield has signed what is believed to be a six-year contract with the Vikings. A press conference is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. today to officially announce the signing.
When VU gets more details on the contract terms and signing bonus, we will pass that information along.
VU has been told the contract total is $34.8 million over six years with a $10.8 million signing bonus. Under the terms of the deal, Winfield is guaranteed $12.5 million in the first year of the contract with signing bonus and base salary combined.
