A few months ago, the City of Mankato didn't know if it was going to host the Vikings training camp at all. A few months later, the city is rolling out the red carpet in preparation for the July-August pilgrimage of Vikings fans.
The city announced the events schedule for this training camp, which gets underway July 30 and runs through Aug. 19.
The events get started Friday, July 30, with an opening ceremony celebration and will be followed the next day with a formal Celebrating Purple Pride dinner.
Other planned events include the annual team passing scrimmage, shared practices with the Kansas City Chiefs Aug. 6-7 and the Vikings Village -- an interactive area where fans can learn more about the Vikings and buy merchandise.
