Vikes Close To Pierce Offer Sheet?

With time running out for teams to make offers to restricted free agents, VU has been told that an offer sheet is going to be presented to Washington linebacker Antonio Pierce.

Many draft experts have the Vikings looking at a linebacker when their first pick comes up at No. 19, but they might a linebacker the day before the draft, too.

VU has been told that the Vikings are presenting an offer sheet today to Redskins third-year LB Antonio Pierce. It is not yet known if the Pierce will sign the offer, but the plan is to get it done before the signing deadline.

If Pierce signs the offer sheet, the Redskins will have up to one week to match -- a period that would end the day before the draft. The Vikings wouldn't owe any compensation if the Redskins don't match the offer.

FRIDAY NOTES
* Denny Green is talking up a storm down in Arizona and, whether he may have tipped his hand to anyone interested in wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, Green unabashedly said Thursday that Fitzgerald is the best player coming out in this year's draft.
* The Vikings' two-year Monday Night Football drought ended with the announcement of the 2004 schedule. But imagine the delight of Bengals fans, whose team returns to MNF for the first time in 11 years.
